Frequently Asked Questions

1. Are the paintings on your website original artworks?

Paintings listed as Original Watercolors are one-of-a-kind works painted and hand-signed by John Best. Selected paintings are also available as fine art prints, which are clearly identified on each product page.

2. What is a giclée print?

A giclée print is a museum-quality reproduction of an original painting created using high-resolution digital printing with archival pigment inks on fine art paper. This process captures the color and detail of the original artwork and produces prints that can remain vibrant for decades when properly framed.

3. What’s the difference between limited edition and open edition prints?

Limited edition prints are produced in a fixed quantity and are signed and numbered by the artist. Once the edition sells out, no additional prints will be produced.

Open edition prints are not limited in number and are offered at a more accessible price point.

4. Do you continue selling prints after the original painting is sold?

Yes. The original painting remains a unique, one-of-a-kind artwork, while prints allow collectors to enjoy the image in another format.

5. Are the artworks framed?

Original paintings and prints are typically sold unframed to reduce the risk of damage during shipping and to allow collectors to choose framing that best fits their space and style.

6. How is artwork shipped?

Artwork is carefully packaged to ensure safe delivery and shipped via USPS or UPS with tracking. Smaller works may ship flat, while larger pieces may be rolled in protective tubes.

7. What materials do you use?

Original paintings are created using professional watercolor paints on 100% cotton archival watercolor paper. Fine art prints are produced using the giclée printing process with archival pigment inks on fine art paper.

8. How should I care for my artwork?

To preserve your artwork, keep it out of direct sunlight, avoid high humidity, and frame it using acid-free matting and UV-protective glass or acrylic.

9. How do I know the artwork is authentic?

All original paintings and limited edition prints include a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the artist, verifying that the work was created by John Best.

10. What if my artwork arrives damaged?

Although every effort is made to package artwork securely, shipping damage can occasionally occur. If your artwork arrives damaged, please contact me within 7 days of delivery so we can arrange a replacement or other solution.

11. Can I commission a custom painting?

I occasionally accept commissions for custom watercolor paintings, including landscapes, wildlife, and pet portraits. If you are interested in a commissioned piece, please contact me through the Contact page to discuss details.
